Writers’ Guidelines + Terms

If you are interested in writing for bamboo, please fill out the form above with your ideas for features or for our columns, along with any links to writing samples or your website.  Please know that due to the large volume of email we recieve we may not be able to respond to every email but you are free to follow up. If we feel your piece will be a good fit we will contact you within a reasonable amount of time.

Once your work is accepted for publication, please review the following guidleines and terms: 

1. Please submit original articles only, with title and subtitle. Occasionally we will publish adaptations or excerpts.

2. If an extension is needed you agree to notify the editor within seven (7) days of your deadline.

3. You warrant (a) that you are the sole author of the article; (b) that the article has not been previously published elsewhere (unless otherwise agreed to by the editor); (c) you have used reasonable care to make sure all facts and statements in the article are true; (d) that the article is not defamatory, and does not infringe the copyrights, trademarks or other rights of another person; (e) discloses no information given to you in confidence; (f) contains nothing unlawful; and (g) all statements in the article asserted as facts are either true or are based upon reasonable research for accuracy.

3. You retain the copyrights to the work and by submitting to us for publication you agree to allow Bamboo to publish it on our website, digital magazines or print magazines, if applicable.

4. If your piece is chosen for publication, please submit it as a Word doc, TextEdit (rtf), Google Doc link, or in the body of an email. Please also attach any relevant photos (with proper credit and permission) in JPEG or PDF to accompany your piece. In addition, we will need a short bio (1-4sentences) with links, if applicable, and a photo of yourself for our contributors page (optional). 

5. If requested, you agree to provide Bamboo with sources and research materials used in preparing the article, including notes, transcripts and tapes. Bamboo has the right to alter the spelling, grammar usage and style of any article to conform to Bamboo Magazine’s editorial standards. Bamboo will obtain writer’s approval of any significant material editorial changes to any article, and such approval shall not be unreasonably withheld.

6. By submitting your work you agree to allow us to use your article/project and accompanying photos for promotional purposes (i.e. on our Facebook and Twitter pages) or to post it on our blog. 

7. Important: We ask that you do not republish your work until 90 days after it is first published on the Bamboo site. Furthermore, we ask that the phrase “Reprinted courtesy Bamboo Magazine :: Whole Family Living” (with link, if applicable) appears with your republished article.

Photography Terms

Bamboo does not pay for use of images but we do give credit! By submitting your photos to Bamboo, you agree:

1. You are the copyright owner or have written permission from the owner.

2. To allow Bamboo to use photo(s) to accompany articles, blog posts, general website pages, digital magazine and for use as promotion on our social media outlets, currently and in the future (with proper credit) unless otherwise requested.

3. To provide proper credit for photo captions.

4. (if applicable) To request that the photos you submit to accompany your article only be used for said article.
